How do I Create, Upload and Manage Documents on OneDrive
To access your Office 365 online portal, open a web browser and navigate to www.office.com. Enter your University username, (username@westminster.ac.uk), and password and click ‘Sign-in’. Select ‘OneDrive’ from the dashboard.
Manage Files and Folders
1. Click ‘+ New’ to create a new document or folder
2. Click ‘Upload’ and navigate to the location of the files or folders on your computer to upload them to OneDrive. Internet Explorer should be used to upload folders to Office 365
3. Click on the ellipsis ‘⋮’ beside the filename to view the full range of file management options, (download, rename, copy etc.). Click on the filename to open the document in Word or Excel online for editing. Documents not created with Microsoft Office, such as PDF, are opened in view only.
Drag and Drop
Another method of uploading files onto OneDrive is drag and drop. Select the file, or files, on your computer that you want to upload with your left mouse button, then, without releasing the button, drag the file to the OneDrive portal open in your browser.
The file will now appear on your OneDrive
Working with Files in OneDrive
When you select a file or folder in the documents folder, the command bar will change to reflect the available range of options for managing the file. Click on a filename to open the document in another browser tab.
To edit a document, click the ellipsis ‘⋮’ beside the filename and from the drop-down menu, select the required application, (Word has been selected in this illustration)
Select ‘Open in Word’ to use the full-featured desktop version of the program or select ‘Open in Word Online’ to use Word online.
When editing a document online, any changes are automatically saved. When using the full desktop version, ensure the autosave button in the top left-hand corner is switched on and any changes will be saved when you are connected to the network. You can edit the document offline and when you re-connect, the document will save. If autosave is turned off, you will need to choose to save any changes.
